hello new member seems like a great site thought I would try to get some answers here. I have a 1989 200 XP evinrude the gasket between powerhead and midsection small part blew out needs to be replaced. Problem is getting powerhead off wont budge. Checked over few times to make sure didnt forget one bolt or nut. Can it be lifted off with a chain or do I have to be centered on flywheel. I have a chain hoist but cannot get powerhead to come off I was using a chain across motor from back starboard to front port side I am thinking it is binding or is it just that hard to pop. Literally lifting boat not what i want to do dont need to break anything. Do they make a hook that goes on flywheel nut or where should I be lifting?

I have done alot of mechanical work on vehicles and machinery its a motor its mechanical but its difficult.

Any hints, tricks or words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

The hoist should lift it with no problem but has all the shift linkage/rod been disconnected and I think the motor mounts with the 2 big bolts that the steering arm mounts to have to be removed as well.

4 bolts and 1 nut one each side back of the motor 2 bolts 1 nut and shift pin under carbs center lifting ring might be best but as long as your load is centered you should be fine
