Can anyone tell me what is the proper adjustment for the carbs on a 200hp 4 stroke Yamaha (not sure of the year). Plugs are new and properly gapped, carb overhauled and jets cleaned, plug wires fine. It starts up well but just won't idle. Above idle it runs fine. So I think the carbs need a bit of fine tuning. I am new to this and don't want to make a bad situation worst. Any suggestions would e greatly appreciated.

Has this engine had the recall update. There is a problem with the engine idling due to tight throtle bushings from salt water getting between the bushing and the throtle shaft. Do not tinker with the adjustments unless you have the tools and know what to do. You will only make it worse. You can lube the throtle shafts with CRC-656 or silicone spray. If you move the throtle by hand you can see the throtle shaft stick. There is a bushing kit for the yamahas and a throtle body kit for the Mercury four strokes.

One other fairly common problem with Yamaha V6 4-strokes not idling, is carbon buildup on the valves and sometimes stuck rings. A compression test may not show it, but a leakdown test will. The factory "fix" is to run 4 6 gallon tanks of a shock treatment of Yamaha Ring Free, mixed 2 oz. per gallon of gas, and run the motor a bit at a time.

Each time I've tried it on customer's motors, it worked fine. The leakdown tests improved and the motor ran like new again. This is assuming that the motor was checked out thoroughly and there wasn't a mechanical, ignition, or fuel related problem with the outboard.
