200 hp merc black max lost 1 piston only

can anyone tell me if this is a common problem. my 1989 200 hp black max lost the top right piston(looking at it from the top<br />) the rod bearing let loose and damaged cylinder and piston and head. piston and rod are blackened what causes this

i have a 200 Merc saltwater series (2000) and it broke a ring on me. Not sure what other damage was involved. I am still waiting for word from Merc if they will spring for a powerhead. Dealer say "hundreds" of things can cause this....doesnt sound to reassuring to me. I want to make sure ths doesnt happen again.
