I did search on the subject and maybe didn't yes the right search terms but I have a 200hp merc black max 1986. The other day my brother used it and it has a forty gal tank and I would say it was 3/4 full he put in 6 gallons 86 octane and (didn't know till i had problems. So when I got the boat back I dumped the whole tank and refilled with good gas...

She opens wide open plains and 10sec later dies out plains for just bit let it idle for a while and same thing over and over..... Changed plugs I think its a carborator issue sarving for gas it sounds like

Any suggestion or i'll just have to pay the big bucks at the shop..

Thanks any Idea would help

Try pumping the bulb. If it picks up you probably have a small hole in the fuel pump diaphragm.

After you try pumping the ball, then try this if needed.
I run 86 octane in my 200 merc all the time w/o any problems, but to your problem. If you have the area in front of the carbs open, try spraying some gas from a spray bottle into the carbs to see if that makes a difference. If that helps, then you are not getting enough fuel.
Also check you fuel/water filter for water, if it has a lot of water in it, you will just burn off the gas gas on top of the water and then it will die until more fuel works its way in through the water or clogger filter.
