I am in the process of rebuilding a 88-92 200hp johnson/evinrude I bought a used powerhead, upon disassembly of my old powerhead I noticed the rods looked as if they have been very hot before, I have owned the boat for 4 years now and I can't remember the alarm ever going off for overheating. Is there something I need to be looking for to avoid trouble in the future.

Describe what you mean by the rods "look like they've been hot".

Re: 200 rebuild question

the rod is redish/purple/gold all the way up to where the piston mounts on it where it more of a grayish color there. and also I noticed some of the recirq. valves are different, talking about the ones behind the carbs, on a couple of them I can blow air threw them and also suck air threw them while some can only have air sucked out ouf them which way should they be?
