I have a 2000 Johnson 115, I just put a new starter in and now my tach does not work when I run it. The 4 starting sequence lights work when I turn the key but no tach (same guage as lights) is there any wires in the solenoid or starter that I could have mixed up that could have caused this? Thanks

They use the positive battery post and the solenoid ground as a place to interconnect wires. I would recommend you look around that area and see if you left any wires unconnected. Especially check for the red wir

Especially check for the red wire from the voltage regulator to the solenoid battery post, and look for any loose black ground wires.

Awesome, I will check it out today. I have 2 connections on the bottom of the solenoid as well, one was a yellow with a coloured stripe and another that is black. Small 3/8 nuts, is this where u mean?

No, the connection point is the large post on the solenoid. The VR wire connects there. I will speculate (Stupid Wild A$$ guess) that if you forgot to connect the VR wire, the VR could have gone bad, and not provide a tachometer signal. I hope that is not it, as it will be a $$ fix.

Also, just below the solenoid is the main ground. Check for missing ground wires in that vicinity.

Ok thanks, pretty sure I connected all the wires as I checked that over thoroughly. I may have put that wire on the negative ground terminal by accident instead of the positive solenoid terminal. I had 3 wire put on the negative and it did seem like I had one too many.

K all figured out, the VR positive I had on the negative solenoid pole. It was wrapped in black tape so didnt see the red in the wire. Works perfectly! Thanks so much for solving my problem!!
