Here's something I am trying to get my head wrapped around. I have twin 200's. One has a newer powerhead - both are running well 'at the moment'. Both are running water through their systems when on and keeping things nice and cool. Both pee holes flowing nicely.

The older of the two will not allow for a freshwater flush - not a drop ( motor off, freshwater connected to the freshwater flush house on the port side of the motor). I have removed the lower cowling to gain access to where the flush house connects to the an elbow that goes into the engine - the house and elbow are not clogged. I have tried numerous flushes and wire contraptions to try to get. 1/2" into the block - I literally hit a wall.

What could cause this ? I'm assuming it's caked with dry, hardened salt ? But this is having no affect on the engines overall cooling capabilities - just the ability to fresh water purge the block.

Any ideas what is going on and how I can alleviate it ?

Thx.

might try running some Rid Lyme marine descaler thru the system to see if that cleans out the problem

I don’t think the scaler is able to penetrate when connected to the freshwater flush…. I had used a similar product connected to a hose and let it sit under pressure for 4 hours with no effect. This seems like it needs to be mechanically cleaned I just don’t know where the blockage is. And, I don’t have a clear picture of how the water flows from the freshwater flush elbow into the block.

I’ve never been able to get any cleaning wire, fishing line etc deep enough in past either a turn in the passage or something blocking to id any salt residue…

?
Is anyone familiar with what route the freshwater goes directly after the freshwater flush elbow ?

What is a next step to unclog ?

Can a poppet valve have this effect ?
