I've been trolling with my newer engine for the last chinook run and on the last day the engine started rattling slightly. Took the plugs out and one looked to be pretty dirty. Cleaned it up and put it back in. Took it out last night for a test run and it started on the second pull as usual and had full power, but when bringing it back to an idle, I noticed the rattling noise was significantly louder so I turned back to the boat ramp. Right at the last minute it started loosing power so I shut it down and used the electric to get the rest of the way back in. It sounds like there are rocks in it! Any ideas. I checked the fuel filter, plugs, and the lower end fluid was just changed. They were all fine. I bought this motor new (early 2001) so that I would have a reliable engine. I hope I didn't make a mistake. Could this have something to do with trolling a 2 stroke? I don't think so since I replaced the plugs last week. Thanks to all for helping. I can't stand not having my boat especially since it has been about 95 degrees consistently for the last week here in Portland, OR. Have a good one.
