That should be a clockwise motor but if your just trying to make sure motor is not lock up you can turn either way for short distance

Do not try to turn the motor from the harmonic balancer bolt. The bolt will snap off before you turn the motor. The do sell a tool to turn the motor over by the crank snout. It requires the balancer to be removed first

Need to be careful about how to describe this, and from what vantage point you're viewing the engine.

- If you're standing in front of the engine, facing the pumps and belts, yes, they and the flywheel all turn clockwise.

- The 'rotation direction' of an engine, however, is determined by facing it from the rear. The standard GM V-block engine is a Left Hand/Counter Clockwise rotation engine.

If the OP needs to order a new starter, it may be important to know that he has a standard rotation (LH) engine. Seems to me I read one story here about someone getting a starter that spun in the wrong direction.

Is your engine serial number handy to help you find the correct parts for your exact engine model?
