Can someone give me a number for the correct exhaust shutter number for this motor. In reading other posts I'm aware that the original number has been superseded. I looked for a number stamped on the SS plate but to no avail.

I've located this part on another site. It appears my year model takes two of these - one for each side of the exhaust. Does this sound correct?

Exhaust shutter 807166a1 vs 807166a3

Exhaust shutter 807166a1 vs 807166a3

I've read a lot of discussion on the two shutter numbers listed. I haven't found a definitive answer to the question: Is the a3 an upgrade to the a1. There's a good difference in price and obviously, if possible, I would like to use the a3's especially if they're an "upgrade" and plus I can get them local. Anybody have any experience with this? BTW, I have a 2000 5.7L

The A3 is just the newer style. Either type will work and both are available.

The A3 is just the newer style. Either type will work and both are available.

The early style shutters (up to about 1996) on those bullhorns were just a pin with a single S/S plate pivoting on it. They had a habit of wearing through the pin and falling into the exhaust system, sometimes with disastrous consequences (don't ask how I know ). The replacement for those is the A3 number, which upgrades the top of the bullhorn to take the new style shutter. As you have a 2000 model, use the A1 number....

I merged your two shutter threads into one. Please don't start multiple threads on the same subject.

It's real easy, go to this link http://www.mercurypartsexpress.com/us/parts-search.html#epc::model_find

Use your Mercruiser serial number to find your engine. Then get the part number. Then you know which one Merc says.

Like I said earlier, you can use either one. I don't like the -3's personally. They are hard to get into place in corroded Y pipes so they work properly, and the decrease the opening of the pipe.
