Ok, I'm still trying to figure out what to do with this motor (the '93). I don't have $500 right now for the parts to rebuild it, but I'd like to rebuild it, so to make my life easier until I can, I'm wondering about parts compatibility between a 1993 60hp 3cyl. (non-VRO now) compared to a 2000 55hp commercial 2cyl. Mainly, just the starter setup and whatever is a part of it. I've been trying to compare schematics online and part #'s, but I don't know what all I need aside from the starter and solenoid. My 55hp M# is J55WRLSSC, in case that helps any. It's manual everything, start, steer, has a choke or primer knob on the front, etc. I am wanting to at least make this thing remote steer/start until I have the money to rebuild the 60hp, so I would also like whatever I need to charge the battery (forgive me, I don't know the proper terms for some parts). I don't even know if they are compatible. There are no parts listed for a starter or anything online, so I have nothing to compare it to. Can anyone help? I feel pretty confident I can do it if I know the parts I need are on the 60hp, I just need to know which parts and how to hook them up.
I'll also be using the controls and keyswitch from the '93 60hp, unless I can't.

Anybody? I know it can be converted to remote and electric start (the place I got it from said they could do the elctric start for $450), I just can't find which part #'s it would be so I can cross reference the ones on my '93 (yeah, I found out it's a '93 not a '94). I need to know what I would need to switch over also.

I really can't think of much that is compatible between those two motors. The starter is not one of them. A starter solenoid would be.

Thanks for your reply. I've even tried finding what parts I may need, but since they don't even list my year and hp with an electric start option, I have nothing to cross reference it with for parts. It sucks. Love the motor though, starts/runs great, but it's a PITA to deal with 55hp as a tiller and rope start. Guess I may have to for a while at this point, since I don't have the money to rebuild the 60hp I'm working on at this time.

Well, since I can't compare the parts, I decided tolook at the same year (2000) 50hp 2 cyl. Pretty much none of the parts matched up with the '93 60hp, not the starer, solenoid, rectifier (if I need it), etc. So guess I'll live with it for now and concentrate on getting the 60's powerhead off so I can get it to a machine shop and see what the damage is.
