They are excellent motors. Your talking a carburated 2 stroke 90 then yes great powerful motor.
Stay away from FITCH motors pre Etec.

That's fairly HIGH priced for that year boat even if it has a newer motor. I sure hope the boat is absolutely pristine and there are maintenance records for the motor......... and salt water run too.......

The acronym is FICHT. It was a precursor to the E-tec. On earlier models (2000 and earlier) under OMC, it will say FICHT on the cowl, on later models produced by BRP (2001 and later) it says Direct Injection. The later models under BRP had a much better reputation than the first generation units from OMC.

If you do have a V-4 FICHT, it may be just fine. Most of the issues occurred with the V-6 models....

If your Johnson has carbs, it is a great outboard. I am jealous. Although it will be a bit thirsty like any carb'd 2 stroke, it was an extremely powerful, reliable outboard for a 90.

sounds like a good rig at a good price to me, although a little on the high side, but used boats that size and design (center console I assume) are in high demand, so if it all checks out, including as to the motor per the advice above, grab it. Age is not a big factor on those boats, unlike bowriders.

thank you for your reply, thru your response and little more investagation i am happy to say its not a FITCH.It is the carbed model some one said was powerful and reliable.
Which leads me to my next question,I been out in my new boat three times now and each time on cold start up its taking a while.I think im flooding it.Being a 2 stroke i no i have to fine the "sweet spot" like starting my old dirt bike.If anyone can help me with an idea it would be great, all motor are different but being a out board novice knowing how many times to pump choke work for you may work for me. cheers
