2000 Evinrude 150 ficht

I am considering purchasing a 2000 Evinrude 150 Ficht motor on a 21 ft Pro Sports boat. I have heard mixed reviews of these motors. If I have a compression and diagnostic test done and both come back ok, is this a good indicator that the motor is fine? It currently has about 340 hrs of use on it.

Welcome!<br /><br />Have all the upgrades been done? Have the dealer run the serial number and get the report in writing.

Thanks for the reply. not sure about the upgrades but I intend to ask. Owner said motor has been dealer maintained since day 1 but didnt mention any upgrades

Some of these Ficht HAD to be Dealer Maintained since day one.<br />DHP

Pay little or no attention to "Owner said motor has been dealer maintained since day 1 " unless he shows you the receipts. If he does, read them carefully. On the upgrades - same thing except have an OMC trained mechanic verify that the upgrades were done.<br /><br />We get all to many posts where the buyer relied on what the seller told him and then they wind up here with a tale of woe.<br /><br />Also go to the top of the page to the red search. Enter FICHT - read away - - you may not like what you read.

My plan is to take it to an Evinrude dealer this weekend and find out exactly what has been done as far as upgrades and service. If no upgrades, is this probably trouble? Ive asked around but reviews of these motors are really mixed. some love em some say run away.<br />-Dont Want to get Screwed in RI<br />thanks in advance for your help
