re: 2000 Evinrude 70hp 4-Stroke (Suzuki DF70)

I just bought this motor in the Spring.

I've ran the motor several times this season with no issues.

Today (and I think one other time) I started it up right after launching and the check engine light on my gauge pack lit up, along with a beeeeeeeeeeeep!

I shut it down and restarted. No problem......light when off, and no long beep. I went on with my day.

Just wondering if any of you experienced folks know if this is anything or not.

Side note, maybe related (not sure) the motor doesn't seem to **** much cooling water out the back jet. Very anemic today and other days I've noticed. But since I'm a new owner, I'm not sure what "normal" is. A friend told me it has a thermostat......and will **** sometimes, and not other times (today the water was 70F, so I figure it should have been pissing a lot).

When I bought the motor, the former owner had just gotten the impeller replaced and showed me the receipt. So, it's new. Tomorrow I'm going to go outside and run it with the muffs on and see what it does.

Interested in your thoughts and opinions.

Thanks

Tom

I think if you run it on muffs, they will only force the water past the water pump. So not really a good test of the cooling system. Needs to be deep in a barrel or in the water. Also I think the water indicator (pisser) is before the thermostat. Therefore if pump is pumping than you should always see water exiting there.

I just ran it......and yes it was pissing water. Good.

Yesterday I reamed out the ****-port with a thing wire.........so maybe there was a bit of material caught in there. It's flowing better than before anyways........even at low RPM.

As far as the check engine light........I'll just have to monitor. Not sure what that is all about.

At some point I'll get the motor hooked up to a testing device and see what the report says. All good for now.
