I was driving in the snow and I hit a part where I felt the snow hit the undercarrage of my car. Now I have a exaust leak. It is in a part where the manafold meets the exaust before the catalitic converter. There is some twisted cables around the pipe like its meant to be flexable. Im not sure what this part is called but I need to get it fixed cause I dont want to sound like a ghetto car driving around. THANKS!!!!

That stainless braid covers a flex joint which you have broken, any exhaust shoppe worth their salt will cut the old flex joint and weld in a replacement provided they are able to work with the pipes you have there.
Estimated cost $75.

Re: 2000 Hyundai exaust question

Thanks windsors03cobra. I been looking around and Im worried that the part in question might be a resinator?? Im not sure what it would be used for but the advanced auto parts, parts listing for my car has this resinator as part of the front exhaust pipe assembly. Im going to add a pic with the part that I broke circled. Thanks for any help you guys can give me!!

Ok I see that it is not a resinator. I have that but the resinator assembly is after the cat. So I guess this is a flex type thing. It has a slit right on the bottom of the area where I circled in the picture. I need to get this thing fixed and it seems that I can get a bolt on direct fit part from some places but Im not sure what this part is actually called. I have not done too much exhaust work. Thanks guys!

I would call it the front/down pipe with the flex joint, described it as being in between the cat and engine.
You can probably buy the whole thing for $ 75 looking at that piece.
I would think the bolts would still come apart instead of twisting off making it kind of easy to install once you have some room.

Re: 2000 Hyundai exaust question

thanks windsors03cobra! You think if I would find this part used at a salvage yard that It would be usable? I really am tight right now with cash and I would rather get it used. Also I am going to be selling a car to my local salvage yard that has about 1500 in new parts. They are interested in the car and I was thinking about a partial cash/trade for that part. Thanks again! Also I am thinking about calling the state and asking them to foot the bill as it was 5 days after a snow storm and the road was still not plowed! Im not sure how that will work. Thanks again.

I would say that any decent auto recycler/wrecker should have that part easy to remove, with basic hand tools.Removal time 20 minutes.Just check the price of used compared to the new, just to save the hard earned.Install time should be a bit longer as you have to take the old one off.

Re: 2000 Hyundai exaust question

Thanks a lot Bubbles Up! I just hope that I can get the old part off my car and the donor car without any issues! It always seems like when I do anything with exhaust there is corrosion issues. Thanks though! Id rather buy used cheaper parts then high price new ones. I heard from a bud of mine and he said that a local muffler shop here can just cut that piece off and it will not have that braided part there anymore. Is that a option that I should consider? THANKS!!
