I recently replaced my VRO pump on my outboard (J175PLSSC) because I had to keep pumping my fuel bulb to keep my motor running or she would cut off, then I got the dreaded NO OIL light and buzzer! so I added oil to my tank and kept pumping the bulb till I got to the ramp! So I went and bought a new VRO pump, but now I still get the No OIL light and buzzer, but my motor runs fine, she is getting fuel, and seems to be getting oil, because I can run a ways before the light and buzzer come ON, but they do go Off. then back ON again after a few miles.
I primed the pump of air when I hooked it up, and I can't see any signs of leaks? what did I do wrong? I'm still running on the premix in my tank, but I sure would like to know if this VRO is any good? The Part #5007420.

Did you clean the oil tank, check hose from engine to tank for kinks, air leaks?

If applying pressure to the oil primer bulb causes the problem to cease, you still have air in the line, OR the new VRO is faulty, OR the oil line is drawing in air at some point. Did you prime that VRO properly?

(Priming The VRO Pump)
(J. Reeves)

When hooking up or installing a VRO whether it is a new or original VRO pump, it must be primed in order to dispel any air that might be in the oil line.

Have the Oil line attached to the engine fitting BUT detached from the VRO. Add a piece of fuel hose if necessary to the oil line so that it can be aimed into some sort of container.

Pump the oil primer bulb, catching the oil flowing out of the line into the container until you are absolutely sure that you have rid the oil line of every bit of air that might have been trapped there.

Now, connect the oil line to the VRO and secure it. When the oil line is secured, apply pressure to the oil primer bulb ONE TIME only. That's it.

Yep,thats how I bled the oil line, the oil bulb stays tight, but I still get the alarm. I know the VRO is working because my outboard runs great, it's getting fuel but apparently not enough or No oil, it must be getting some oil, because I can go farther each time I bleed the oil line. do you think it's just air still in the pump? I only have a few days left before my warranty run out on this pump? are there any tests I can try, to see if the pump is working properly?

Priming a VRO would be as above and apparently you've checked that area out.

Since my retirement preceeded the manufactued date of that engine by a few years, my knowledge of the engine's circuitry and design leaves a lot to be desired. Hopefully someone with up to date knowledge of your engine will jump in here with further advice of your problem.
