Hello,<br /> I'm looking at a boat ('88, 22' Grady Cuddy) w/a brand new Johnson 250HP (model year 2000). I know this was the time when OMC was going belly up, and was probably one of the left overs before Bombadier took over. What's the story? is it a GOOD, RELIABLE motor? Will I be able to service it? Will I be servicing it often? Hows it do for gas vs. performance? Thanks for you time...

Since it's new, you should be getting a warranty, from Bombardier (even though the motor was built by OMC). I believe they are a dependale, gas guzzling motor. I think, the only problems they have, are (potential) lower unit problems(bad parts? poor quality control?). I have heard of people, who have bought these left over, Johnsons and Evinrudes, and had lower unit problems. Bombardier replaced the whole lower unit, rather than replace parts. Then again, if you make it through the warranty period, without a problem, and then your lower unit fails, what then? How lucky do you feel?
