I replaced a 1972 25hp. Johnson motor with a 2000 25 hp. motor. The new motor slips and I thought it was the prop. However I have tried several different props and it still does it. I have also adjusted the trim. Is there anything else that could be causing this problem? It sits on the boat the same as the 1972 model and the 1972 model works fine on the boat I just wanted a newer one. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Howdy, Kegg.

I need a better understanding of what slipping is. Is the engine revving without spinning the prop? Is the prop spinning without generating thrust?

Is the anticavitation plate (horizontal plate just above the prop) even with the bottom of your transom/keel?

Let us know. :)

Both motors are 15 inch shafts lower unit. While going down the lake at full throttle the prop will start to slip. The motor revs up and the boat slows down and sets in the water. As long as you hold the throttle wide open the prop slips. Let off the throttle and the boat will take back off.
