Not working. Its on a 2000 Javelin. Previous owner said that it didn't work for him but everything looks hooked up under dash. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks. Hunter

I imagine this is an electrical guage. Test the contacts on the guage with a multimeter when the engine is running. If you aren't getting any voltage to the tach then your problem probably lies within the wiring to the engine.

Check the voltage to the tach, it it's getting voltage, and the batteries are being charged by engine, you have a bat tach to replace.

Oops, when I said getting voltage, I mean key on power as well as a tach signal or 'pulse'.

I will check it as soon as it quits raining. Thanks for your help. The only problem I have is looks like there is a lot of wires coming into the back of the tach because of all the dummy lights and alarms that is associated with the engine. I will try my best.

SS It sounds like you have the "System Check" Tach. If you have the 60 degree v-4 engine, there is a somewhat complex procedure for testing the tach circuits. In summary, the purple wire needs to have +12V, when the key is on, the black wire is ground, and the tach wire is the grey one. The tricky part is that both the purple and grey wires also go to the VRO pump on the motor, for some unknown purpose.

Even with the OEM Service manual, I was unable to determine if the voltage regulator on the motor was shot (BTW it charges pretty well), or the tach was broken. I plan to replace the tach and see what happens. If you look on the net, the System Check Tach can be had in the Faria Chesapeake White SS version for $99 plus shipping.
