2000 Merc 150hp model differences

I'm looking at a boat with a 2000 Mercury 150 HP V6. It has the blue label and says Saltwater series but doesn't have EFI or Optimax on the cowl. Does this mean that is an old tech Merc that isn't associated with the problems that plagued the Optimax in this year group?

I'll plead total ignorance on Mercs, I've only owned old OMCs.

Sounds like the same type of motor that I just bought. The 150 that you describe is likely a 150XL CAR, which is a 2.5 liter V6 carbureted engine. My 1999 Mako has the same motor, and it runs like a champ.
