2000 Mercrusier 3.0 Oil and oil filter cross reference

Does anyone have any experience using a different oil and oil filter than the factor recommended oil and oil filter? It is almost impossible to find a large jug of the Mercrusier 4 cycle oil(25w-40) and the factory filter(35-866340K01) in my area. I found some cross reference for the oil filter in AC Delco(PF454) and Fram(PH8873). Any recommendations on oil and oil filter would be greatly appreciated.

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,... You can run Whatever oil ya want,...

The 3.0l uses the Same filter the SBC has used since the 60s....
The only options is the length of the filter...

I use only the Merc. oil and filter and if I could not obtain it locally then I would order it from the hundreds of places that sell it over the Internet and ship right to your door.

Some Merc. dealers also take orders and ship right to your door.

Have you tried Walmart? Most carry Merc oil,

Same engine here, I use whatever long (SBC) filter is on sale at the local parts store along with straight 40w hd oil.. I never boat when it's cold outside, I figured there was no need for an all season oil.
