I had to remove my lower unit and had a seal job done on the lower and after i put it back on the upper I am checking to see if I have the right movement in my propeller before I put it in the water to make sure the linkage is all working as it should.

I dont think it is working right, here is what I have.

When gear selecter is in forward it only moves about 1/10 each way counter clockwise and clockwise and then it is locked. ( Is this correct? I thought it forward it should not mover counter clockwise but should move rather easily clockwise. )

When gear selecter is in neutral it moves freely each way counter clockwise and clockwise 360 degrees

When gear selecter is in reverse it only moves about 1/10 each way counter clockwise and clockwise and then it is locked the same as it does in forward.

I removed the lower unit again and messed with the lower linkage selecter. It apprears to have three positions as would make sense forward, neutral and reverse. The same thing happens as above when it is put back together or removed by itself when I try and move the propeller by hand i get the same results.

Thoughts?

519;

Do you have the s/n of your engine and I will see if I can get you the online manual.

The test for that engine is by rotating the flywheel for N and R, not the prop:

FWD: Rotate flywheel CW and note that prop turns CW

Neutral: Prop will turn freely either direction

REV: Rotate flywheel CW and note that prop turns CCW

All flywheel rotations as viewed from above.

That s/n actually comes up as:

225 225 EFI ((3,0L) V6 0G451461 0G594012 1997 USA

From here:

http://www.marinshopen.se/Motorer/O...ury2taktV66cyl200300hp/tabid/491/Default.aspx

It is a model 7225423FD

Parts listing:

http://www.crowleymarine.com/mercury-outboard/1086.cfm

Service Manual: p/n 90-822900R3

http://1manual.com/Mercury manuals/Service Manual PDFs/TwoStroke/822900r3/cov.pdf

If you scroll down to the lower part of the opening page, you will see the various engine components in red. Click on the one you want and when the first page opens, click on the "Save As" icon at the top LH corner of the page and you can save it to your computer.

To verify the information from post #2 you can select Lower Unit, Right Hand Rotation and scroll down to page 6A-54.

Thanks Gerry for all the information. Why would the serial # and year come up differently? It is a rebbuilt motor I purchased last fall and thats what is on the invoice, or does it just fall in that range?

519;

I get the information from Mercury and other sites and was surprised when this one came up as a '97 after reading that you thought yours was a 2000? When you say that the engine was rebuilt, do you know if the powerhead was replaced or overhauled?

If it was a 2000 year, the s/ns would be in the OT range, not OG

Interesting, no I am not sure on the powerhead, I will find out from the company I bought it from. Where is the serial # located I will double check it on the motor
