I picked up over the summer a project of a Sylvan that had been stolen and stripped. The fuel cell was left in the boat and never touched but it was drained and left empty for a few years. It looks like it has some old grime in it and particles. I was wondering what was the best way to clean it out short of ripping all the floors out and pulling the tank. I wont be using it for at least a year and have been using an external 8 gallon tank for the outboard. Could i possibly flush it with water and then just drain it out? Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Check out the Iboats shopping mall and get yourself a bottle of Startron fuel tank cleaner. It's made by Starbright. Mix it with a gallon of ethanol gas and pour it in your tank. Swish it around as best you can by rocking the boat front to back, and side to side. Let it sit over night swishing it around again in the morning. Then siphon it out and dispose of the mixed mess properly { I used it to start fires in my outdoor fire pit }. Your tank will come out squeaky clean. That stuff really works well, and because ethanol is also a solvent is just cleans that much better. Good luck with your project!!
