I am replacing the transom shield on my 2000 Wellcraft Excalibur / Volvo Penta 5.7 GSi SX drive. Where i have run into trouble is the little stuff (and therefore really important). I can't seem to find any information about what type of sealant to use on the transom shield gasket. It was a yellowish gummy sealant when I cleaned it off...I just want to be sure I'm using the right stuff that won't eat the gasket, and does the job holding it in place. Thanks for any advice.

No sealer required, but you MUST replace the gasket, do not reuse the old one. The yellow gummy sealant you are referring to is probably the glue that holds the gasket in the transom shield for installation.

Thanks Don. That glue is indeed what I am referring to. Any idea as to what that is?

Thanks for your time
