I have a Volvo penta 5.7 gs with new long block. boat starts and runs great until I get on plane about 3000 RPM. It then sputters and powers down or stalls. I have new carb, new fuel pump, new fuel pump relay, just had tuned, plugs, cap, rotor, oil change, new fuel seperater filter, new starter, new raw water pump.....this happened for the first time after had not run boat for a month and fuel was low. Mechanic said its fuel pump and relay? replaced and did the exact thing at the exact place on marker 97.... I checked fuel lines for blockage and looked at carb screen...all clean...the new fuel filter did not have anything in it dry so went along with mechanic that pump overheater and shot? Any ideas what to check next????? Fuel line siphon? The points? Oil pressure switch? Cap rotor, carb is new? Thanks

Does anyone know if chaparral 232....2000 has vent line or vent screen built into cap? If so how to clean? Maybe the problem, clogged screen causing vapor lock in fuel tank? Thanks

Sounds like a fueling issue to me. Has the boat ever run well with your new carb? If your power valve or secondary circuits are clogged, when you open the throttle you'll get a lean condition and stall.

It doesn't sound like the anti-siphon on your tank is bad since it runs well under 3000, the fuel pump doesn't run any faster at high rpm, and you probably have a Delco EST ignition, so no points to replace.

You can test fuel tank venting by unscrewing your fuel fill cap and trying it again with the cap off.

First thanks for your input. The boat ran great with new carb....Holley 2 bbl new not rebuilt from Holly....the idle was a little low so mechanic adjusted up...other than that, starts first turn temp, oil pressure fine, plenty of power until about 30-60 seconds on plane at around 3000 RPM..I see RPM go down and loss of power, than will sputter or stall. I have to wait about 10-15 min to start...I can bring up to around 1800 RPM and limp back....think could be oil pressure switch faulty puts in safe mode? I read that? The first time this happened I checked all fuel line and water seperater and they were bone dry....hence new fuel pump relay etc?

I will try running with tank flap open to test....this problem started when tank was low near empty, usually keep it at least 1/4 full...put half tank in and happened immediately after?

I'd also check the fuel tank pickup screen. It wouldn't be the first time someone managed to clog up the screen filter.

Check the anti-syphon valve for blockage. I had a similar situation with my OMC King Cobra.
