2000 Volvo Penta SX-M Trim Gauge not working

I bought a boat with a 2000 Volvo Penta 5.0 with the SX-M outdrive and the trim gauge is stuck at the top of the gauge. As I lower the trim the gauge bounces down a bit but stays stuck to the top in the end. I looked over several posts and many of them had image references to the outdrive but I could never find the images. Any help on where to start diagnosing the issue is appreciated. How to I test gauge? Wiring? Sending unit?

I think you mean SX-M.

Its going to be the sending unit more than likely. They go bad all the time and they aren't cheap. I have replaced mine once and probably not going to bother the next.
