put it in the water today and noticed engine was not spitting water. ran it for a little while hoping it would start pissing but never did. my water pressure gauge was reading normal, no alarms went off, and my tempture looked fine. But on the way back in it bogged down to about 5mph and would not go any faster and i could hear a clanking sound coming from some where at the top of the engine. neadless to say we paddled back to shore. Also the water pump is 3 months old. last time i ran the boat i had to bog through 6 inches of mud and shell for about 50 yards to get to the ramp, could this have caused it not to spit now.

Yup - do it every time. Need to remove and replace your impeller and do a blow back on the telltale hose ( a.k.a. **** tube ). Follow the hose back to the engine and remove it, blow water or air through it. Also not a really bad idea to hook up the engine muffs and just let water pour through the engine without it running. Be surprised at some of the gunk and crap that will come out. Also remove the side water screens on the lower unit itself and take a good look in those passages. :D
