2001 150hp Johnson Shifting problem

Good Afternoon,

I have been running into an issue with my boat not shifting until a fair amount of throttle is applied. I messed with the cables when I did a link and sync but I assume I am not adjusted properly and needs corrections? It doesn’t really grind or smash into gear.thanks Alex

With shift cable end unhooked from linkage place motor linkage in neutral position. Adjust barrel nut so hole in cable end just fits onto linkage slightly, very slightly favoring the forward gear. Secure various things, cotter keys and such, and go boating.
