One way to tell if the shift rod height is correct is to look at the shift lever where the remote control cable connects to the motor. In neutral, that lever should be parallel with the crankshaft centerline. If it is off center, you can turn the shaft on your motor 1 turn at a time to get the lever parallel. <br /><br />That way the linkage has the same amount of "throw" in both forward and reverse.
