ok, here goes: sorry abut the long post but: i have an HPDI engine that is kicking my ass and need some outside help with it. its a 2001 200hp hpdi,
z200txrz.
before i got ahold of it, a previous mechanic cleaned the medium pressure pump, sent the injectors out for cleaning and replaced all the filters.
once i got the call, the boat had only started a handful of times but would die out and eventually not start at all but on the rare occasion. the fuel pressure to the HPDI pump was over 40 and fuel getting to the injectors was virtually non existent. i removed the HPDI pump and sent it out for rebuild. they reported that there were several parts internally that needed replacement and sent photo of rusted and corroded parts. once returned, i flushed the fuel system, although the customer said he had already replaced the fuel, i wanted my own assurance that all the gas was removed and replaced.
i installed the pump and the beast roared to life. i ran it on muffs for a good while on and off for a few days before giving the customer the go ahead to put it in the water.
he put it in and it ran good for about 20 minutes then sputtered and he barely made it back to the dock. when i got there, she wouldn't start again, felt just like it had when i got involved.
hooked up the scanner and it was not giving a good fuel pump pressure, under 500psi on occasion, it would jump up to 1200 and start but immediately die in less than 30 seconds. i spoke to the pump rebuilder and he instructed me to ship it back. once he got it, he went over it completely and found no issues, he said it looked like i was brand new inside ( of course it was, it had 3 hours run time total, if that)
so here i am, the pump is on its way back to me and i am no further along than i was in the spring.
anyone have suggestions?
