Put the boat in the water today which hasn't been run in about 3 months, and the engine started up fine and ran fine, 5500 rpms pushing a 23 Regulator, but when I turned the key to the off position, instead of immediately shutting down like normal, the engine would slowely spool down and take about 3 seconds to completely shut down. 571 hours on a 2001 250 OX66 which has been religiously maintained with 100 and 200 hour services. Currently have 27 hours after the last 200 hr service, which included an O2 cleaning and 3 brand new LP fuel pumps. Any ideas? Thanks, Ted

My same thoughts. Check the black wire on the back of the switch to be sure there is a ground. Its not killing the ignition but the fuel pressure is dropping when you cut power to the fuel pump and its running until its out of fuel.

Well that was it boys, a bad key switch. I started the boat yesterday and tried pulling the lanyard and the motor shut right down. So I'm just going to replace the key switch as its 12 years old. Thanks, Ted
