The boat mechanic says this is not the original engine so I'm not sure what was changed. I have learned a lot about this boat, but I can't find the oil pressure and high temperature buzzer switches. The brown w/blue stripe wire at the out drive oil reservoir will sound the buzzer when grounded, so I know the circuit works. There are two switches in the thermostat housing, 1 with one brown wire and 1 with two wires, 1 black and 1 yellow. Grounding them did not buzz the buzzer. No brown w/blue stripe in that area. At the rear of the intake where the oil pressure switches are there is a brown w/blue stripe with nothing that I can see for it to attach to. The gauge sender is there and the switch for the fuel pump t's off it. Should there be another switch t'ed into the other two? Where is the brown w/blue stripe wire for the temp switch at the thermostat housing? Is that temperature switch some where else? Thanks, Cliff

The buzzer activator for the high water temp is on the right side of the themostat housing .It is the two wire weatherpack type connector . My 4.3 was buzzing too with normal water temp until I unhooked it . The low oil pressure warning buzzer activator should be right next to the oil sending unit , at least it is by a 2001 model . You may have a low gear oil sendig switch also , That is the little white bottle near the top of the engine if yours is so equiped , that also has an sender that will activate the buzzer if low gear oil is present

Thanks dollarten. I checked my engine wiring schematic. I see that the 2 wire switch on the right side of the thermostat is the buzzer high temp switch. It looks like the yellow wire goes to the ignition control box instead of following the brown w/blue stripe to the control console. When I grounded the yellow wire with the key on, the buzzer did not sound. Does the engine need to be running for this switch to function? I can't see any place for a third oil pressure switch to tie into the other two. Can anyone offer a picture of this set up? BTW, had a day at the lake today. Test drove a new Hawkeye 2" indash depth gauge. I used the transom mount option for the transducer and it worked great. I really enjoy this boat. That v6 has plenty of power and seems to really sip the fuel as long as I stay around 3000RPM.

I am not sure about the oil sender but I did notice an extra wire(s) going down to the oil filter area . .Thinking the water switch through , When you turn the key on the buzzer will activate until oil pressure builds up and will breack the circut to the buzzer in order to shut if off . So that would be the reson why the buzzer switch is wired to the ign. switch and yes the witch need to be on . Now looking at the water switch by the T stat housing , that would be a normally open switch and when the water gets too hot it will close the switch and activate the buzzer . Now , if the switch in the water sender switch closes too soon causing a false reading the buzzer wil come on too early signaling an overheating condition . What my boat was doing was setting of the buzzer off intermintally with a water temp sender that was closing in near 170 degrees I am going to try a lower thermostat to confirm my thoughts otherwise I will get a different sender

I have the wire for the oil pressure switch at the rear of the intake. Just no third oil pressure switch to stick it on that I can see. According to my manual, the high water temp switch should close at 190-200 degrees and open at 170-150 degrees. You can check it in a pot on the stove with a candy thermometer and some kind of continuity tester. Mine will not activate the buzzer with just the key on. What drive setup do you have?

I have a 2001 sea ray with the 4.3 engine . I just looked at my Mercruiser owners guide and it shows that there are three circuts that will activate the buzzer gear oil level , oil pressure , and water temp .For some reason , you are not getting voltage to activate the buzzer when you turn the key on . If you do not have the original engine , the wiring harness may be different and hence no power to activate buzzer If your oil sender is on top of the block behind the carb and mine is is just above the oil pan , that would surmise that engine harness will be different On my Sea ray the is an interface module that ties the engine and boat harness together inorder to make all the systems work . Your current engine harness may not be compatible with your boat harness and they could not communicating properly I think the 4.3 had quite a few changes around 1996 and later . Hope this helps
