My 50 Hp Mercury takes forever to start when cold, and runs rough and often stalls at idle. My Battery turned out bad but with a jumpstart system it still takes forever to crank, I am changing the plugs since they have not been changed in 3 years, I have also never decarbed the engine, I know you spray into the Carbs because I find plenty of instructions for this process, I just do not know where the Carb inlet is to spray ?Is there something i need to remove to access the Carb?

Sounds more to me like a fuel related problem. If motor was incorrectly winterized you could be experiencing this problem. I would not decarb motor unless it is running good. If you spray that decarb in and cant get it out you could have greater problems. First you should rebuild carb and fuel pump. Replace all fuel lines and clamps. Take one of your fuel lines off and take it to NAPA. Yours are probably stiff instead of soft and plyable. Your fuel pump and carb has the same problems with rubber. Gas has alcohal in it that dries out the rubber making it not seal as well. You can rebuild carb and fuel pump for around 25 bucks. Get motor running good then decarb using old plugs.

Good Luck and welcome to Iboats

Out of curiosity...are you activating the choke when you try to start by PUSHING IN THE KEY at the same time turning the key? Crank then blip with a push, keep cranking. blip with a push again till starts. If starts to die push in agian on the key quickly. DO NOT HOLD THE KEY PUSHED IN CONTINUESLY WHILE CRANKING. You'll flood the engine.

The engine runs well once it finally gets started, it only tries to die while in neutral, at idle. I just recently learned about the ability to push the key in, I bought the Boat new(my first boat) and the dealer didnt really hit the features with me. I dont think I push the key in at all when I start. What does this accomplish? my fuel lines are still soft. My fuel filter seems good. The fuel was old I just ran a fresh tank through it.
ps.. MCPO I am an AT2
