Just completed a simple repair that took me forever and broke a part. I had marked the original shift rod measurment where the single nut and long nut meet from the shift arm and lower unit (linkage). Well they wiped away. Now I can go into forward and neutral easily but reverse is a problem. I have to manually turn the prop until it slips into reverse. Well can't do that in the water. I Just need to know the distance from the top of the lower unit shift rod to the first single little nut. I think that will correct the issue. Thank you in advance.

I had to take my shift rod loose at the top so can't help w/measurement. It sounds like you are close, so now a little trial and error. Since reverse is done at the farthest back position, I would thing you would need to shorten what you have on the rod. Hope that makes sense to you.
