Greeting.
Looking for some help to get back in the water. Currently boat is moored and have no easy way of taking it to mechanic.
Problem. Boat lost power all of a sadden cruising at 4500 rpms. Checked for spark. Nothing. few weeks prior, motor was behaving strangely as if one cylinder was losing power intermittingly. Seemed like motor was misfiring. Then all was fine for few trips, and now no spark on any of the cylinder.
It is 2001 Johnson J90PLSIG.
Can I get a few tips, what to look for and what sensor or electrical components usually going bad.
Boat is wiring without Kill switch. Fuse on inside the cowling is good.
Optical sensor? can it go bad and cause this.
Ordered repair manual but, several days away.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Find the black/yellow wire coming out of power pack, disconnect that and crank it over. No spark, mtr prob. Spark, boat wiring prob.

Most likely the optical sensor on top of the flywheel. No special tools needed to replace. To test, you will need an expensive tool called 'ignition analyzer', cheaper to buy the sensor.
