Hey guys, my wife and I took out the boat for mothers day and we had been riding for about 30-45 min and I got an alarm saying the motor was overheating. So we shut down right where we were and she started tanning and I threw some rods in the water and then tried diagnosing the best I could being not so mechanically inclined. I verified the water was coming out of the hole and had good pressure. Popped the cover but didn't know what to look for so I just stared at it for a minute and then put cover back on.

After sitting a while, we packed up and took off. After fishing/tanning for the day with no motor issues, we were headed back to the docks and the no oil alarm sounded. I know for a fact that I have oil in it because I recently added a gallon to the reservoir.

I've heard it could be the float in the oil reservoir and or something to do with the thermostat.

Any help you guys can provide would be greatly appreciated!

First thing to do is put a new water pump in it. Then mix your fuel 50:1 until you resolve the no oil alarm issue.

wait wait wait - 2001 evinrude 175 - i assume its a ficht ram, right ?

if we are talking here a direct injected ficht NEVER , IN NO CASE , premix fuel with oil to lubricate it or you will throw away your engine. can you verify what exactly 175 evinrude we are talking ?

Aero, sorry I was thinking Johnson. Guess it was getting late. As Aero said if it is FFI defineatly DO NOT use premix. Get us a model #.
