Re: 2001 Johnson 115 sputtering at wot

Welcome to iboats.

It could be a few things, one likely candidate would be the high speed jet in the carb. When was the last time the carbs were bathed and rebuilt? Will spraying pre mixed fuel into the carb throat pick it up? What about choking it? Pumping the fuel primer bulb?

I'm more likely to suspect an air leak someplace. But, this is the first outing of the year, so carb is right up there too. Is it just WOT or is it 3/4 and up?

I havent sprayed anything into the carb. Its never had anything done to the engine is there an online manual for the engine?I've worked on a lot of atv and motorcycle carbs but never a boat motor. It maybe 3/4 throttle but I've only noticed it at WOT.

Try the 3 things I mentioned earlier to troubleshoot your problem. Let us know what happens. Also check for holes in the fuel line and that all fuel hose connections are tight like IW stated.

Also possible ?? that the fuel tank filter is clogged or the anti syphon valve is stuck in a semi closed position. Just things to look into.

Took it out this morning and it wouldnt even plane out missing so bad.Took it home cleaned the carbs took it back to the water ran great for about 5 min then started the same thing. Is it possible I have an electrical problem or could I have got more trash in the carbs?I had the ears on it with a water hose hooked up and it idles fine and revs up without hesitation

I have the same problem. I am checking the fuel line for holes. Also, try running it and pumping the bulb while running wide out and see how it runs.

Unless you did a thorough job of cleaning out the carbs, it's likely that they just gummed up again shortly after running.

Should have used new gas unless the gas was already new. Clean the carbs includes cleaning the FUEL system.

I might be the fuel pump! Check to see how the boat runs wide open while pumping the bulb.
