Hello, new to the forum excellet source of information. Wonder if anyone could shed some light on a recent motor problem. I'm getting black exhaust residue on the lower half of the engine cover and all over my transom, I'm not idling for lond periods of time and the engine is in my opinion not running as smooth as it should at idle. The dealer says it's running fine and doesn't see a problem. I'm thinking it's running to rich. Using omc oil. Any info would be great, keep up the good work!

Hi Beckman

Welcome aboard.

That's quite a new motor. How long ago did you finish the run-in period ? Have you stopped running on 25:1 fuel now ? Normally for the run-in you use a 50:1 mixture in your fuel tank as well as running the oil injection system which brings the final mix up to 25:1 Normal run-in period is 10 hours running. After this time you would normally use unmixed fuel in your tank and rely on the oil injection for the 50:1 mix.

If you're still running on 25:1 fuel mix, that will cause extra smoke from the exhaust...

Some of these engines had trash in the carbuator and the float needle would not close, look for flooding carb, or fuel restriction, are coil arcing between the coil and flat stainless plate behind the coil.

Thanks for your replys..I'm all done with the break in period and I just had all the carbs checked and cleaned. I'm going to check the manual to see if the vro can be adjusted or any ideas about how to check on a fuel restriction?
