Hey all!

Bought a new boat, kind of a no questions asked thing. Everything works that I can see. Only thing is i have no idea as to what type of fuel to use. This boat has a console drive and gas tank under the back deck ( opening on back of boat for fuel). It is equipped with a 2001 Johnson 40 horse. Model number J40VLSIB

I guess I'm just looking for some info on fuel. Thanks for the assistance!

Is there an oil tank ?----See if automatic oil injection is in service or bypassed.-------Perhaps a visit to a shop is in order.----Did you get an owners manual for the motor ??----Best to find a manual and read it before turning the key.

No manual. And I don't see an oil tank. Where would that be located if there was one?? Everything is built under the deck. Spare gas tank came with but it's just a small 2 gallon with regular Johnson hookup. None of that is hooked up to anything.

50:1 is correct for a 2 stroke. Just need to determine if the oil injection is disconnected

does the gas tank have gas in it ? are you sure the small gas tank is not the oil tank and if the big tank is empty you could mix a gallon or so 50 to 1 to run the motor and see if you have any alarms:)

Check the gas in the main tank and see if it has a bluish color to it. If it does, the previous owner was pre-mixing the oil and gas.

I cannot get to the tank it is built into the boat under the deck.

Also the small tank is in the front of the boat and not connected to anything at all

Perhaps visit a shop to verify that oil injection is or is not hooked up.-----Mix at 50:1 until you find out for sure.

I would imagine if the cover is off the motor I would be able to locate an oil tank on the motor?
