2001 Johnson 70hp Idle speed

Hello all,

j70plsis 2 stroke. I have recently replaced my timer base and stator, since then it has idled a bit higher while on muffs.
15-1600 during initial start up, after 2- min 12-1300rpms, again, while on muffs.
haven't tested idle RPM in water or in gear.
Does this sound normal or is it high.

Too high.----Is the thermostat installed and working.----Does your motor have " quickstart " and is it working.

Bought the boat used.
i hope there is a T-stat in there!
i think the quick start is working since the revolutions drop after a few min after start up.

Water tested it today. Neutral idle in water has the same rpms 1100-1300. Idle in hear 700-900rpm.
