Hi everyone,
I have 2001 Johnson 90 V4 engine J90VLSIG in which I just rebuilt the carburetors. They had really bad float bowls that were warped, and I replaced those as well. Motor starts fine, no leaks now, but I am having trouble when I come down to idle. The idle is around 500 and cuts out when I try to go into the slip. Needless to say, not fun. I am trying to figure out how to get the motor to idle at 700. Please note I have tried adjusting the low speed idle screws to no avail at all. Any suggestions on where to focus my attention would be greatly appreciated.
Kindly,
Ara

The needle valves should increase/decrease idle rpm, so if you aren't getting any effect there is something going on in the carb systems. But you probably should better be locating the throttle idle adjustment (or idle stop), and adjust there. Take off the remote cable and make the adjustment at the engine, then reattach the cable to match the engine settings.

I don't have a manual in front of me, but look for an idle of 600-700 rpm warmed up and in gear (and in the water). On muffs, you will see rpm of probably 1000-1100 or so. Adjustments should be made in a tank or in the water (need back pressure).

Update: I was able to adjust the throttle cable and get the rpm's to 650-700. Thanks very much for the help.
