Hello all, and Thanks for reading!
I just picked up a project boat, with a 3.0 Volvo Penta that is reported, by the owner to have blown a head gasket while he was skiing behind it. 751 hrs on it.
Upon inspection the following things were alarming to me:
-Oil down the starboard side of the engine, assuming from blown HG
-the rubber boot connecting the the exhaust riser to the large tube that runs down into the boat has come off...???
-and the pulley with the water pump on it wobbles while running a little... is that ok? The one behind it does not wobble.

Owner says they paid a marina to replace a head gasket last summer and this year when they pulled it out of storage the first trip out (while skiing) after 4 hours of running he says the head gasket blew. He didn't have the patience to put any more work into it. But I do.

How do i properly diagnose the "blown Head gasket"? or the underling problem?

Should I replace the impeller, just in case?

Sorry if i sound like i don't know what I'm talking about, I really don't, but I do have patience...

Re: 2001 Stingray 108LS with 3.0 Volvo Penta Blown Head Gasket

Compression check showed #3 at less the 50 psi

torque check on pulling the head reviled the three bolts around the cylinder with low compression came loose with the torque wrench at 55ft#s the rest were over 60 with one coming loose at 75...

Impeller looks to be intact, should it be so tightly jammed in the pump that the fins bend?

Head came off, #3 blown out the port side, though the valve cover leak was the source of the oil down the starboard side of the block, not the head.

Block looks good, no feeler gauges fit under a straight edge.

Getting the Head tested and resurfaced this week.

Lots of carbon build up in the non blown cylinders

Still don't know if the raw water pump pulley should be wobbly like it is.

Oil level was approximately a centimeter over the full line. is that a huge problem? looks clean...

Any help here would be awesome, like gasket part number for a kit to replace all the gaskets I need, and torque specs for the head, so I can get it right.

Still have no idea what had caused this.
