hello
i have a 2001 tracker pro angler v16 aluminum boat - it has mercury cables and elect start harness - this harness has an 8 pin plug on the boat. The original motor that I don't have anymore was a 25HP mercury 2001 or 2002 model
I want to put a mercury 9.9 prokicker engine on it - new - probably a 2007 - this motor has an electric tilt on it - the merc manufacturer rep says it requires a 8 pin to 10 pin harness adapter - but the motor dealer in town says it already has an 8 pin. he won't open the box to be sure.
question 1: does anyone know for sure about the motor and how many pins it has - ie do I need the adapter
question 2: is there a way to check to see if i am getting power to the existing 8 pins and how do i check that - which pin goes to what part on the engine - the controls I have do have a tilt button - do some pins go to ground, some go to the tach etc ? but the overall question is, how to check for juice w/o plugging it into an engine.
