JUST PURCHASED USED BOAT WITH ABOVE OUTBOARD--NO TOOL KIT--ALL SPARK PLUGS EASILY ACCESSIBLE EXCEPT 1. IT IS ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ENGINE AND IS JUST BELOW LOWER COWLING MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO GET A SOCKET WITH DRIVER ATTACHED INTO THE SMALL ACCESS SPACE. DO I NEED A SPECIAL TOOL TO GET AT IT AND TO TORQUE IT BACK IN PLACE???

use a 5/8ths plug socket and a 3/4 box end wrench.
torqueing it back will require years of feel or a crows foot adapter with the torque formula supplied with your torque wrench.
please remove the caps locks :) its killing my wore out peepers :)
most plug sockets also have an external hex on the drive end and on most 3/8's drive ones the hex is 3/4"

Re: 2001 YAMAHA 175 VMX HDPI

thank you very much for your help. I am not much into mechanical work except a few basic things. I bought a torque wrench because I have a tendency to over tighten things. I was curious as to why the designers made it this way but so be it. I'm not sure I've ever seen a crows foot adapter but hopefully sears has them. Again, thank you for answering the question.

a basic guide in a pinch is about 3/4 of a turn after the gasket contacts the head , when using a NEW gasket, less if the plug had been previously installed.
