The last few times out on the lake the engine has become harder to start and nearly stranded me. Once started it runs great! When I turn off the engine it usually starts up immediately with ease but if it sits or if I pump the throttle it acts like it floods. The Holley carburetor has several numbers on it and I have not had much luck in figuring out what the proper re-new kit is - here are the numbers: 5925, 3857981, 80316-3, and 3629 - I think it is a 2300 since the engine is a Volvo Penta 3.0L. I noticed some fuel on the top of the float bowl around the adjustment screw and I carefully (1/16 turn) loosened the float bowl setting screw and fuel started leaking out. I'm thinking that the float level is not correct causing the inlet needle not to seat properly. Someone previously was in this carburetor because I can see that the float bowl screws have been loosened and the setting glue/paint is marked up. I'd like to simply remove the float bowl, correct the issue and replace the inlet needle. I'm willing to give it a go considering that it should be an easy task, - - or should I just unbolt it and drop it on someone else's desk? I'm thinking that digging into the whole carburetor may just cause other problems (not knowing how knowledgeable the tech is) and it is probably something simple. Other than the starting issue, the boat runs great. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
