2002 200 hp Evinrude Ficht Check engine Light

Have check engine light coming on only at 3500 rpm then goes off went put in neutral.I have new plugs,filters,thermostats and have used an external fuel tank.Water pressure gauge shows good pressure.Blew through hose to emm and from cannister but I would like to do a thorough test to make sure all the hoses are checked.I noticed one spark plug wire is exposed when I got a nice jolt when checking them.Dealer says spark plug wire would not set off check engine light.I was thinking of buying the diagnostic software since dealer said I'd have to make an appointment and either pull the boat out and trailer it or take a long slow ride to dealer.Any ideas on what it can be or if I'm missing something?

Well since I got no replies,I went ahead and got software and cable.Worked out great.Got all current and previous trouble codes.Was able to troubleshoot with some help of a mechanic and online.Ended up being a clogged vapor separator which I was able to rig something to flush out with hose.No problems since

Sorry, but I never seen your orginial post. As long as you got the software and cable hang on to it. With these mtrs today you absolutely need it.
