I have mechanical throttles on my 496 mag ho. Can someone tell me where the IAC is mounted? It does not appear that it is on the throttle body and the air hose appears to run to the back of the engine.

Is there actually a diagram somewhere that actually shows locations of the different sensors on one of the fuel injected engines?

It may be towards the rear on the top of the intake manifold in the "general location" of where a distributor assembly would be mounted on other type GM engines...Should have a 2-way connector too.....You'll have to remove the top plastic cover to see it. Also follow the hose from the throttle body on over to it.

Looks like this, https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Quicksilver...ash=item1c95dff6ae:g:1XUAAOSwy~BZ8MPI&vxp=mtr

If you can get past the WTH is with this guy in the video, it may help out some too.

Thanks All Dodge and Fun Times. These IAC's from what I hear are almost a disposable yearly maintenance item on these 496 mag ho's.

Never heard that, but guess if you can get them cheap enough you could. Most I've seen is if it does go out, it can take out the PCM from drawing to much current. This usually happens when there is a problem and its not fix right away

I would agree with you AllDodge but after conversing with the person I bought the boat from and a few others who do these poker runs, they all carry spare IAC's on their boats. The previous owner indicated he just changed them yearly. Seems like an odd part to fail all the time but they all comment on how the wiring harnesses get hot and melt and to back up your statement they sometimes fry the PCM 555's on occasion. I've seen pictures of these harnesses melting which is a scary prospect with all that fuel on board. It seems Mercruiser would have some kind of remedy for this issue. It seems to be some kind of duty cycle problem.
