2002 5.7Gi-BF wiring harness connector damage, fuel pump dead

I replaced my 1992 VP 570A with a 2002 VP 5.7Gi-BF. Despite the 10-year difference, the old cannon plug from the dashboard plugged directly into the newer engine's connector. I hooked up batteries, tried starting....it turns over, so something is going through the connectors, at least thru the key switch / ignition to the starter. The first issue I noticed was no fuel... the fuel pump isn't getting power.

I pulled the boat-side plug, examined it carefully, compared it to the plug / pigtail that came with the newer engine, discovered the old plug is 9-pin but the newer plug is 10-pin. The old plug is missing a pin (#10), but that may be irrelevant (?). FWIW, the old engine's fuel pump wasn't electric, it operated mechanically.

More importantly, when the newer engine's plug was removed, it pulled one of the engine-side connector's pin "cylinders" out (little metal tubes/cylinders inside the connector that the pins plug into); the cylinder is still stuck on the end of the pin (#5). The connector-end of cylinder appears to have been soldered, presumably to the end of a wire still embedded in the back end of the connector.

I doubt I'll be able to repair this; I believe my best option is to buy a new 10-pin connector (VP adapter 3884406) and try splicing wire-to-wire to replace the connector. Does anyone know if this is viable?

Aside from that, I'm wondering why the fuel pump isn't working. Is it because of the missing pin in the old plug? Or, possibly the broken connection from pin #5? I'm dubious of that, I believe most of these connections provide signals to various instruments on the dash, only a couple of the pins (probably the big ones) provide power & ground for the engine... and some other electrical component on the engine should be distributing power to the fuel pump. Is that right? Any advice is welcome... I'm no expert, only guessing.

I know I need to fix the broken engine-side connector; do I need to figure out what the missing pin in the boat-side plug is for?

Thanks,
Woody

PS, tried to get pix of the connectors, but phone died. Will try to post pix later...

With your fuel pump not turning ON I would check fuses. Not familure with the 570, is that a Ford or GM?

The Gi 10 pin is in pic and you can buy a new pigtail and solder in place.

Thanks for that, helpful info.

Yes, the old VP 570A is a GM 350... carb'ed, standard ignition (dist cap), v-belts; I lost count, but I believe I'd tightened that alternator belt 97,000 times.

The newer engine is fuel-injected, electronic ignition, serpentine belt (self-adjust); plus, it's not nearly as rusty. I upgraded just so I wouldn't have to tighten the alt belt anymore.
