The engine is not heating up to prescribed temp.

The Temperature sending unit is a sensor that is surface mounted on the engine block screwed into bracket. NOT screwed into the engine block-very inaccurate way of measuring temperature-was told by Bomb that this is how it is done on the new engines and to check the water pressure gauge and idiot lights on master gauge.

This year I had the water pump replaced by my marina (non dealer), I do this every two years. water pressure is 89-10lbs at idle, but the temp of the at the thermostat housings was approx. 70 F ( I could put my hand on it).

What I have done: I dissasemble the pressure relief valve and rebuilt it-new spring, diaphram and rubbers seals, removed both thermostats, checked them in hot water and both open at the prescribed temp of 135-140-F.
Cleaned out the thermostat areas and reinstalled the thermostats.

I then closed off the hoses leading to the pressure relief valve (I removed each hose and plugged them. I ran the engine for 10 mins. The area near the thermostats warmed a little to touch but no where near 135 F.

I reconnected the pressure relief valve and ran the engine for 15 mins. The engine block did not get hot just warm to the touch again.

There was no debis in the cooling system and it was very clean (I freshwater clean afer each trip out).

Re: 2002 Evinerude DI 250 hp overcooling

I know it has been a year but have you resolved your over cooling problem?
I have been hired to fix what sounds to be the same problem. Has to be caused by a blockage somewhere. I was certified ten year ago but went out on my own. Now the dealers had out my card when they don't want the job or just don't know how to fix the problem like this one. It's a double hand me down. Previous owner was tired of paying to not have it fixed so he sold his problem to this new owner. An 1800 dollar repair bill later (which didn't fix the no oil alarm) and the dealer gave him my number. lucky me. I started my own over cooling thread but no response yet either. If i learn anything i will get back with you because i don't think anyone else has this problem (at least according to BRP).
Its almost like something did not get manufactured correctly.
I should have all the exhaust system apart soon.
