2002 Evinrude 40hp EFI

Hi this is my personal friend's engine and It has some problems. It is a 2002/03 Evinrude 40hp 4 Stroke EFI engine. At around 2700rpms the overheat alarm goes off. The shop he took it to has changed out the water pump, thermostat and checked if it threw out any codes. It only threw out the "overheated code" but everything was reset and done to fix, but the problem continues. Motor cools at correct temperature and has has a temp gun pointed at it when running, all normal temp.

What can be the problem with this engine???

Your friend needs to take the motor back to the shop that "fixed" it for correction.

Could be a number of things, such as plugged water passages, water pump not done right, etc.
